THE BUILDING
The Arizona Republic is an American daily newspaper that is circulated throughout Arizona and is the state’s largest newspaper. The 10-story office building and parking garage are located in the heart of downtown Phoenix. Phoenix Newspapers Inc. built the parking garage in 1989 and later constructed the building that houses the newspaper in 1995.
THE CHALLENGE
Presto Restoration was contacted by the owners of The Arizona Republic because the building’s caulking was deteriorating and failing to waterproof the building. The project scope was to complete a full replacement of the building’s caulking materials, while avoiding interfering with the expensive TV broadcast equipment on top of the roof and around the building.
THE SOLUTION
The project was carried out in two phases using swing stages to access all areas of the building’s exterior. The technicians removed and replaced all of the building’s glass-to-glass, metal-to-glass, metal-to-precast and precast-to-precast caulking.
THE RESULT
The Presto team devised and executed a solid plan to work safely around the expensive TV broadcast equipment and completed each phase of the caulking replacement project while avoiding any delays and staying within budget. The owners of The Arizona Republic were extremely happy to have the peace of mind knowing the building was fully waterproofed and protected from the penetration of external elements.
