The Building
The Grand Hyatt Washington is an 888-room hotel in the Penn Quarter of downtown Washington DC. The building was originally built in the mid 1980s and opened as a Hyatt hotel in 2003. The exterior has many decorative features and the hotel features a vast atrium over the lobby.
The Challenge
The entire exterior of the building needed caulking repairs to ensure the hotel stayed protected from water intrusion, air leaks, and pests. The biggest challenge was wet glazing the atrium. It is a central feature of the property and difficult to access safely. We needed to ensure the safety of our team members and the hotel staff and patrons.
The Solution
Once our team was on site we were able to develop a plan for replacing the expired caulking around the exterior of the building and the atrium. We used all of our combined experience to find the safest way to anchor to the building and then used rappelling equipment and temporary flooring to access all of the glass.
The Result
We safely and quickly wet glazed all the glass on the exterior of the building. It is now completely sealed for water and air leaks once again.
